Native and Dryland Pasture Seed Mixes Impact Revegetation 12 Years after Pipeline Construction in Southern Alberta

چکیده
Activities associated with agriculture, grazing, and the energy industry have altered large tracts of native rangeland in North America. Pipelining causes intense local disturbance by removal vegetation alterations to soil horizons. Following a disturbance, reclamation is required return land equivalent capability. Revegetation usually seeding and/or agronomic (non-native, dominant) species. This study investigated long-term effects dryland pasture (91% non-native species) seed mixes, right-of-way (RoW) treatments on revegetation southeastern Alberta. Native mixes were more successful at enhancing seeded cover than mixes. Grazing had significant impact only survival grasses. The mix did not significantly affect total, native, non-native, annual, or perennial forb cover. Total was higher trench all other RoW (storage, work). suggests that can result following pipeline construction.

Soil organic C (SOC) and total soil N (TSN) sequestration estimates are needed to improve our understanding of management influences on soil fertility and terrestrial C cycling related to greenhouse gas emission. We evaluated the factorial combination of nutrient source (inorganic, mixed inorganic and organic, and organic as broiler litter) and forage utilization (unharvested, low and high catt...

15 صفحه اولConsiderations for Establishing Native Grasses from Seed for Restoration, Revegetation, and Erosion Control in Western Washington and Western Oregon
Native grasses are increasingly popular and valuable tools for revegetation, erosion control, and wildlife habitat improvement. Many have unique features and benefits that make them advantageous over certain exotic and introduced grasses. In the field of ecological restoration, they are a critical and required component of the target plant community, ecosystem, or natural habitat. A number of n...
متن کاملPhotoinhibition of germination in grass seed--implications for prairie revegetation.
Germination photoinhibition is not a recognized cause of revegetation failure; yet prolonged sunlight exposure can inhibit germination of several grass species. This research addressed susceptibility to photoinhibition of selected native grass species used to restore Canadian prairies, and reclamation treatments to alter environmental conditions in order to release seeds from photoinhibition. U...
